Valve has opened the October 2026 edition of Steam Next Fest, giving PC players one week to sample thousands of upcoming games for free. The event runs through October 26 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific and combines playable demos with developer livestreams, chats and fresh looks at games still in development.

Finding the Right Demo Should Be Easier
The biggest change this time is not the number of demos, but how players can search through them. Valve has refreshed the festival navigation with filters for genre, theme, feature and subcategory. That should make it easier to move beyond the front page and find something suited to a specific mood, whether that means co-op adventures, strategy games, story-driven mysteries or smaller experimental projects.
Steam Next Fest is held three times each year—in February, June and October—to put unreleased games in front of players. Demos can be installed directly from the event page, while wishlisting a favourite provides an easy way to follow it toward launch.

Five Featured Demos to Explore
Valve’s official festival trailer highlights a wide range of participating games. These five offer a useful starting point across very different genres:
- Hela: of Mice & Magic — A gentle 3D co-op adventure in which brave little mice explore a world inspired by the nature of northern Sweden, solve puzzles and help restore harmony.
- Haunted Paws — A cozy-but-spooky co-op adventure about two puppies trying to rescue their owner from a haunted mansion. It supports local play and online co-op with a Friend’s Pass.
- Emberville — A pixel-art action RPG built around dungeon exploration, combat, rescuing survivors and rebuilding the ruined town of Emberville.
- Stronghold 4 — Firefly Studios returns to medieval castle building and siege warfare with a narrative prequel to the original Stronghold.
- Among Us Story: On Guard — A single-player narrative mystery that puts players in the role of a ship security guard who must investigate murders and identify the Impostor.
Demo availability can change after the festival, so the event page is the best place to confirm what can still be downloaded.

When Does Steam Next Fest End?
The October 2026 edition ends on Monday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific. Players do not need to finish every demo before that deadline, but some developers may remove or replace their demo once the festival concludes. It is worth downloading priorities early and wishlisting anything that leaves a strong impression.
The Guild’s Take
Next Fest works best as a discovery tool, not a checklist. Thousands of demos can be overwhelming, so Valve’s improved filters may be the event’s most important upgrade. Pick two or three genres, try something unfamiliar and wishlist only the games you genuinely want to follow. A focused evening of demos is likely to reveal more gems than endlessly scrolling the full catalogue.
