Modern Warfare 4 Reveals 12 Launch Maps and New Multiplayer Modes

Activision has revealed the full multiplayer lineup for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, detailing a substantial collection of maps, returning favourites and new modes ahead of the game’s October 23 launch. The package includes twelve Core 6v6 maps, three 32v32 Ground War environments, four dedicated Gunfight arenas and the unpredictable new Kill Block battleground.

Twelve Core Maps at Launch

The standard 6v6 rotation will begin with twelve maps: Cachette, Coal, Lithium, Lotus, Mumbai, Munition, Nautical, Reactor U92, Rooftops, Sentry, Silkworm and Transit 213. The locations stretch from a damaged South Korean fishing village and an unstable reactor complex to snow-covered New York rooftops, a Mexican lithium refinery and a busy shopping district.

The infamous Shipment will follow shortly after launch on October 27. This version keeps the familiar compact layout but relocates the battlefield to a Russian harbour and updates it with Modern Warfare 4’s visual and gameplay systems.

Large-scale players will receive three 32v32 Ground War maps—Imjin Farmland, Wolves Stadium and Forest—while the smaller Gunfight pool includes Cafe, Library, NYC and Smuggler.

Kill Block Changes Between Rounds

The most unusual launch map is Kill Block, a modular live-fire training facility that physically reconfigures between rounds. Activision says the system can create more than 500 combinations, forcing teams to reconsider routes and sightlines instead of memorising one fixed layout.

Some sections are completely new, while others borrow recognisable elements from maps such as Crash, Highrise and Shoot House. Kill Block supports both 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight variants.

Inflation Turns Successful Players Into Targets

Modern Warfare 4 introduces several new multiplayer modes. Inflation challenges players to eliminate opponents and collect the cash they drop. Carrying more money increases a player’s value, but reaching the High Value Target threshold reveals their position to allies and enemies. An overtime period introduces larger multipliers, giving teams a chance to reverse the result late in the match.

Hijack revolves around a portable Data Spike. Teams can carry, throw and pass the device before planting it at the opposing Comm Station. Successfully defending the upload scores points, creating a mixture of objective play, passing and area control.

Collateral Adds a Tactical Buy Phase

The round-based Collateral mode blends the structure of Search & Destroy with an economy system. Players begin with a pistol and $800, earning additional cash from eliminations, plants, defuses and round victories. That money can be spent between rounds on weapons, armour, perks and equipment, while teammates can contribute toward shared purchases such as a UAV.

There are no respawns or custom loadouts. A defeated player loses their purchased equipment but retains their remaining cash, making every investment a tactical risk.

Combat Outpost Expands Ground War

Ground War receives the new Combat Outpost mode, expanding the familiar Domination format into a 32v32 territorial fight. Capturing an outpost generates points and creates new spawn positions. Teams can then reinforce the captured area to unlock benefits including local UAV coverage, vehicle drops and eventually a light tank.

Alongside the new additions, the launch playlist includes familiar modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Free-For-All, Search & Destroy, Gunfight and Gun Game. Proving Grounds provides tutorials and timed courses for learning the new movement system.

Halloween Brings Possession and Infected

Two additional modes are scheduled to arrive before Season 1. Possession allows players to take control of an eliminated opponent’s location and loadout, potentially throwing them directly across the battlefield. The returning Infected once again divides the lobby between survivors and a constantly expanding infected team.

The Guild’s Take

Modern Warfare 4 is not short on launch content, but Kill Block and Collateral are the most interesting additions. A transforming arena could keep Gunfight unpredictable, while Collateral introduces meaningful choices without abandoning Call of Duty’s fast pacing. The real test will be whether the twelve Core maps remain distinctive once players settle into the competitive rotation.
