Electronic Arts outlines strategic priorities and portfolio changes including BioWare closure

Electronic Arts has shared a company announcement detailing three new strategic priorities, portfolio adjustments across shooters, action-adventure, sports and lifestyle titles, and the closure of BioWare's Edmonton workspace.

Electronic Arts has announced a series of strategic priorities and portfolio adjustments intended to shape the company’s next era of interactive entertainment. Following an internal review, leadership outlined three core focus areas: deepening existing franchises, expanding reach across new platforms and markets, and transforming the business through sports relationships and new engagement methods.

Portfolio Adjustments and Studio Changes

In the shooters sector, the publisher plans to leverage technology and lessons from Battlefield 6 across future titles, alongside a collaborative project between Respawn and DICE. Apex Legends will receive continued investment through new multiplayer gameplay modes and expansion experiences. Meanwhile, action-adventure efforts will concentrate on fewer simultaneous large-scale projects, alongside ongoing work for Marvel’s Iron Man and the next Star Wars Jedi game.

As part of these adjustments, EA stated that a small team working on early development for Mass Effect at BioWare has been halted, resulting in the closure of the studio and its Edmonton workspace.

Sports and Lifestyle Updates

EA Sports continues ongoing investments in the global growth of the FC franchise and other titles. Development projects include a social-first open-world experience for American Football called Project Gridiron, alongside pre-production to bring back Fight Night utilizing simulation fighting team capabilities.

Within lifestyle properties, The Sims team will prioritize Project Evergreen while pausing development on Project Lotus. Skate. is adjusting its studio structure to maintain a smaller, focused team dedicated to its community roadmap.
