Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains in active development and has added a new writer to its team. Rik Godwin, who serves as lead writer and associate narrative director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, has confirmed that he has spent the past several months working on the sci-fi project in a supporting and advisory capacity.
The science-fiction sequel was initially announced in 2008 before being re-revealed during E3 in 2016. An official release date for the project has not yet been announced. Godwin’s involvement was confirmed through social media, noting his primary base at Ubisoft Bordeaux. While that studio frequently operates as a support facility for other initiatives across the company, it has also contributed directly to projects such as Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the Claws of Awaji expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Primary development on Beyond Good & Evil 2 is handled by Ubisoft Montpellier. Given the geographic proximity between the Montpellier and Bordeaux studios, staff contributions between the two locations are common. Although the project’s development history has been marked by significant challenges, multiple indicators in recent years have suggested that the work continues to progress gradually.
Fawzi Mesmar previously joined the team as creative director to oversee the progression of the title, which helped the project regain a clearer direction. Characters connected to the sequel recently made cameo appearances in the Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition, establishing a direct narrative connection between the releases. Earlier this year, the project also survived a broader corporate reorganization at Ubisoft that resulted in the cancellation of several other titles and the restructuring of various development teams.
Following those cancellations, Mesmar emphasized the team’s ongoing commitment to delivering the game for players. Despite these developments, the exact release window for Beyond Good & Evil 2 continues to be undetermined, marking nearly two decades since the initial announcement.
