Apex Legends has entered the second half of Overclocked with a patch aimed at the two things that most directly shape repeat play: combat balance and trust in the lobby.
Split 2 changes the close-range equation
The June 23 update includes Legend balance changes and new shotgun hop-ups. Those additions can alter how squads value inventory space and entry damage, especially in final circles where one decisive close-range exchange creates the opening.
Respawn also delivered bug fixes and quality-of-life work across the game. Midseason patches are healthiest when they broaden viable choices without making the opening weeks feel like wasted practice.
A specific anti-cheat win
Respawn says it implemented detection for a reverse speed hack that allowed cheaters to freeze themselves in mid-air for extended periods. The studio framed this as part of a continuing effort rather than a finish line.
That distinction matters. Competitive integrity is not restored by one ban wave; it improves when detection closes unusual exploits quickly and players see steady communication about the work.
Guild take
Overclocked Split 2 looks like a maintenance patch in the best sense. The new tools create reasons to experiment, while the integrity and reliability changes address why players decide whether to queue again.
